GDPR – Interim Statement
ETC Europe places great importance on the correct, lawful and fair handling of all personal data, respecting the legal rights, privacy, and trust of all individuals with whom it deals.
The GDPR will give more rights to individuals and more obligations to us when we process your personal data. We will be publishing a new privacy notice on this website on 25th May.
In the meantime, we are making process towards compliance with the GDPR in all areas where we process personal data.
In the course of its business, ETC Europe processes personal data of its clients, employees, suppliers and personal data contained in documents for translation.
Documents for translation present a particular challenge as the content may contain personal data. We routinely treat all documents for translation as confidential and have various safeguards and processes to ensure confidentiality and to protect your content. In order for us to provide you with the best quality translations in the shortest timescales, our translators may be based abroad, including in countries outside the EEA and those not deemed to have adequate Data Privacy laws under the GDPR.
This situation is common to all Language Service Providers in the EU and is a fundamental feature of our industry. We are working on practical solutions to address this issue and expect to provide a GDPR compliant pathway for translation content in due course.
ISO 17100:2015 Certificate
ETC Europe Recertified to ISO 17100:2015 Translation Standard
On 13th October 2025, ETC Europe has been officially recertified for the Translation Standard ISO 17100:2015, reaffirming its commitment to delivering high-quality, multilingual translation services that meet the most demanding requirements of EU institutions, international organisations, and NGOs.
What ISO 17100:2015 Certification Means for Your Organisation
ISO 17100:2015 is the internationally recognised standard for translation services. It establishes rigorous requirements covering every stage of the translation workflow — from the qualifications of translators and revisers to quality control processes and project management procedures.
For organisations engaging in EU translation or responding to European institutions’ appels d’offres, working with a certified provider is not simply a mark of quality — it is increasingly a prerequisite for compliance with procurement frameworks.
Key Requirements Covered by ISO 17100:2015
- Verified professional qualifications for all translators and revisers
- Mandatory revision by a second qualified linguist
- Documented quality assurance processes at every project stage
- Confidentiality and data protection obligations
- Traceability and audit trails for all translation deliverables
Why Recertification Matters for EU and Multilingual Procurement
Recertification is not automatic. It requires a full external audit conducted by an accredited certification body, verifying that processes, personnel, and quality standards continue to meet the ISO 17100:2015 requirements without exception.
For clients working within EU procurement environments — including framework contracts, appels d’offres, and multilingual institutional projects — ETC Europe’s recertification provides independent, audited evidence of conformité. This supports your own compliance obligations and simplifies due diligence when selecting a translation partner.
Meeting the Standards of European Institutions and International Organisations
EU institutions, intergovernmental bodies, and major NGOs operate under strict quality and compliance requirements. Multilingual communication — whether legal texts, policy documents, public consultations, or technical reports — must be accurate, consistent, and produced by verified professionals.
ETC Europe’s ISO 17100:2015 recertification confirms that our EU translation services are structured, audited, and delivered in full conformity with international standards — giving institutions the confidence to rely on us for their most sensitive multilingual assignments.
ETC Europe: A Trusted Partner for EU Translation Services
Specialising in institutional and technical translation across all official EU languages, ETC Europe supports clients throughout the full project lifecycle — from terminology management and translation to revision, formatting, and final delivery.
Our recertification to ISO 17100:2015 reflects our ongoing investment in quality, compliance, and the professional standards expected by European institutions and international organisations.

If the translated documents must be submitted to official institutions, the sworn translations must also be authenticated. With authentication, the translator’s signature is confirmed by the competent authorities in the translator’s country of residence. Authentication can be a protracted procedure which, in most countries, involves several parties such as the courts and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
